Sleek and dynamic, spacious and versatile with a fully electrified powertrain – this is the new Opel Grandland, which was presented today by the car manufacturer from Rüsselsheim.

The newcomer brings numerous design features that we first saw with the Opel Experimental concept and are now brought to life for the first time in a production model. Among these features are the 3D Vizor with an illuminated flash in the emblem proudly positioned in the center, and a continuously illuminated ‘OPEL’ lettering at the rear. Additional highlights include the Intelli-Lux Pixel HD lighting system with over 50,000 individual elements, the STLA Medium platform fully tailored for battery electric vehicles (BEV), and a new flat battery cell pack design that allows for the use of batteries with a capacity of up to 98 kWh. With this, the Grandland Electric can travel up to approximately 700 kilometers (WLTP1) without local emissions.

“The new Grandland is a milestone for the Opel brand. With it, every Opel is now available with electric drive without exception. This is a significant step in our electric offensive. The new Grandland was designed and developed in Rüsselsheim and will be manufactured in Eisenach. The kinship with the Opel Experimental concept is immediately noticeable, as it brings innovations that we first saw with this exceptional concept vehicle. The new Grandland will thus strengthen our position in the important C-SUV segment,” said Opel CEO Florian Huettl.

A platform inherently designed for battery electric vehicles (BEV) enables an electric range of up to approximately 700 km (WLTP1)

The next generation Grandland is Opel's significant step towards providing even greater appeal for electric mobility. It is the first Opel to use the Stellantis STLA Medium platform for battery electric vehicles (BEV). Thanks to the new architecture, the new flat battery with a capacity of up to 98 kWh, a next-generation electric motor, and energy-saving features such as a heat pump, the new Grandland Electric impresses with an electric range without local emissions of up to approximately 700 kilometers according to the WLTP standard.1 At the same time, it ensures that your charging stops can be short – the battery can be charged to 80% in approximately 26 minutes.

3D Vizor, illuminated flash, Edge Light technology, and Intelli-Lux Pixel Matrix HD

The new foundation has also given designers greater freedom, and the impressive stance of the new Grandland is visible at first glance. Compared to its predecessor, it has grown by 173 mm in length, 19 mm in height, and 64 mm in width (length: 4650 mm; width: 1905 mm; height: 1660 mm) and appears very confident. Combined with up to 50.8-centimeter (20-inch) alloy wheels, it boldly and comfortably ranks at the top of Opel's SUV offerings. Additional grandeur is provided by the new interpretation of the distinctive face of the Opel brand: the 3D Vizor. This element is combined with the illuminated Opel flash, which is further emphasized by Edge Light technology. The new Grandland includes the shape of the ‘Opel Compass’ introduced by the Experimental concept. The vertical center crease and horizontally extending Vizor intersect with the ‘electrified flash’ at the center of the intersection.

The new illuminated logo accompanies another lighting innovation from the engineers in Rüsselsheim – the top-notch Intelli-Lux Pixel Matrix HD headlights. The system offers over 50,000 elements (specifically 51,200, with 25,600 on each side) for high-resolution light distribution and is available for the first time with this new Opel model. Depending on traffic conditions, the camera detects approaching objects or those in front of the vehicle, and the Intelli-Lux Pixel Matrix HD headlights ‘cut’ them out of the illumination even more precisely than standard matrix headlight technologies, providing a much brighter and more homogeneous light pattern – without dazzling other road users. Additionally, new welcome and farewell animations with graphic projections in front of the vehicle provide a glimpse into the future.

With a ‘floating’ roof in a different color and contrasting trims, the Grandland is visually elongated and captivates with its elegant appearance. The overall shape of the body is tidy and structured while remaining fluid and organic. Sharp lines of the wheel arches run across the vehicle and help visually push the wheels outward. This is complemented by the robustness of the elements with wheel arch trims and on the lower part of the body. The long wheelbase of 2784 mm and steep tailgate emphasize the greater spaciousness of the cabin and trunk. The rear seats can be folded in a 40/20/40 ratio, creating up to 1641 liters of trunk space.

At the rear, there is a distinctive light signature with a compass that for the first time includes illuminated ‘OPEL’ lettering, which is another novelty. In line with Opel's Greenovation approach, which aims for the economical use of all car-related resources, the model name is no longer displayed in chrome letters but is centrally embossed into the tailgate.

Spacious interior with a 40.64 cm (16”) central display, AGR seats, and smart storage solutions

Inside the new Grandland, passengers are welcomed by bolder and cleaner elements combined with a warm and inviting ambiance. The interior design architecturally emphasizes a horizontal theme with lines running across the dashboard to the doors, enhancing the sense of width and spaciousness, while the slightly driver-oriented central display with a diagonal of 40.64 cm (16”) and the high center console create a sporty feel. Behind the steering wheel is a discreet wide and fully digital display of essential information that allows the driver to focus on enjoying the drive, and in combination with the Intelli-HUD projection display, ensures that they do not have to take their eyes off the road. The driver also has the option to manually or automatically activate Pure Mode (clean display of information). This reduces the amount of information on the driver’s information display, projection display, and central display, ensuring even less distraction while driving at night or in the rain. In line with Opel's characteristic tradition, frequently used settings, such as climate control settings, can also be intuitively managed with a few remaining physical buttons.

The side air vents are integrated into the doors, visually emphasizing the width of the dashboard. The upper part of the dashboard has a beautiful technical appearance and is aesthetically divided into two surface structures, highlighting the overall design tone. Below it is ‘Edge Light’, which mirrors the motif introduced by the Vizor with the same technology: colored and light signatures are precisely applied and blend with the indirect ambient light of the displays and inserts in the doors. The central part of the dashboard is upholstered with fabric and visually transitions into the doors, creating an attractive and tactilely pleasant cockpit.

The interior provides an exceptionally interesting driving experience: Opel's AGR ergonomic seats have a reputation for numerous awards, and the new Grandland continues this long-standing tradition. The AGR-certified seats (Aktion Gesunder Rücken e. V. – Action for a Healthy Back) introduce a new feature for even greater comfort: active side bolsters. This feature, with two pneumatic pockets in the side parts of the backrest, significantly improves the adjustment of lateral support and comfort. The driver’s seat also offers ventilation and massage. Meanwhile, rear seat passengers have 20 mm more legroom compared to the predecessor. The front seats are equipped with a patented Intelli-Seat function as standard – a special slot reduces pressure on the tailbone and provides exceptional comfort even during long highway drives. And one more thing: all fabrics in the interior are 100% recycled!

The Grandland is a family vehicle, so designers and engineers paid special attention to the versatility of the interior. The goal was not only to provide numerous storage spaces but also to find innovative solutions that would make life easier for users while enhancing comfort and well-being. The highlight of these smart solutions is the Pixel Box. This element with illuminated transparent glass and fabric upholstery not only increases the visual appeal of the console but is also highly functional. Behind the glass is a wireless charger for smartphones, allowing devices to be charged while safely stored. The constant visibility of the smartphone also helps ensure that it is not forgotten in the vehicle when leaving the Grandland. The new Grandland offers a total of over 35 liters of internal storage spaces – from the Pixel Box to phone pockets in the front seat backs and a large storage space under the center console, which also includes a 12-volt socket.

Alternative drives, frequency-selective damping technology, and a range of driver assistance systems

In the fully electrified powertrain offering, customers who do not opt for the fully electric version and prefer other powertrains will also find the right option for themselves. The new Grandland Plug-in Hybrid with a range of up to 85 km without local emissions (WLTP1) and the Grandland Hybrid with 48-volt technology offer further interesting solutions that ensure driving enjoyment while reducing consumption and CO2 emissions.

Although the Grandland reduces emissions, it does not compromise on dynamic and comfortable driving. This is enabled by the chassis with special dampers that adjust damping force according to the frequency of movement (frequency selective damping). This unique technology creates a second hydraulic circuit in the damper chamber, mechanically adjusting the damping force according to the frequency of movement. Depending on the situation, road surface condition, and driving style, it allows for different damping characteristics for comfortable ‘gliding’ at high frequencies – during short jolts, such as bumps on cobblestones or in manhole covers – and for a sporty-ambitious driving style with a more direct connection to the road at low movement frequencies. The Grandland responds even faster and more directly to every driver command and, as is characteristic of Opel, remains stable during braking, cornering, and at high speeds on the highway. Opel's DNA is further emphasized by special settings for springs, anti-roll bars, steering, and the ESC system.

The attractive offering of Opel's new premium SUV is complemented by a wide range of driver assistance systems, including adaptive cruise control with ‘Stop & Go’ function, extended traffic sign recognition, intelligent speed adaptation, and collision braking system that helps prevent secondary collisions – all part of the standard equipment. For an additional fee, the Intelli-Drive 2.0 system is also available, which combines numerous electronic assistants and integrates them with semi-automated lane change assistance and recommended speed adaptation. If the target lane is free, the assistant gently steers the Grandland into the desired lane with small steering movements. The recommended speed adaptation ensures that – if the driver confirms this – the vehicle's speed adjusts to the currently valid limit and is appropriately reduced or increased to that limit. In addition to sensors, the Intelli-Drive 2.0 system also uses wirelessly accessible network or internet information. Parking and maneuvering are facilitated by front and rear parking sensors, a rearview camera with an automatic cleaning function, and a 360-degree Intelli-Vision camera.

The new Grandland, with its state-of-the-art new platform and innovative new technologies combined with numerous design features that we first saw on the Opel Experimental concept vehicle, is positioned at the forefront of Opel's SUV offerings while bringing a new level of fully electric freedom to Opel's electrification strategy.
